My university makes accommodations for students with physical or learning disabilities: students are provided with time-and-a-half, an interpreter, or whatever else they need. Three of my students fall into this category, and the disability office sends me an email reminder of this fact before each of their exams. The reminders are always flagged as “confidential”, and the body of the email is headed with a bolded, red, all-caps exhortation not to scroll down unless we are sure that no one is reading over our shoulder.

So, it was with some measure of amusement that I opened today’s email: a list of all of the students who will be writing their finals in the disability centre.

Yes: all of the students who will be writing in the disability centre. Not just all of my students who will be writing in the disability centre; all of the students writing in the disability centre, period.

Brilliant.
